Traditional Textiles Workshop Itinerary

Upon your arrival for this traditional textiles workshop. You will received with a warm welcome from our artisans, Pututeros and Varayoc who will delight you with the magnificent sounds of the pututo (seashell) and with some local customs of the community.

Our local expert guide will receive you and will provide you with all the explanation about the project, traditional textiles trajectory, recognitions and the textile industry in general.

We will take you on a tour to the workshop where you will be able to appreciate all the demonstration of the process of making the traditional textiles. We will give you a theoretical talk about the ancestral dyeing and weaving and its history.

Then we will start with our experience at the workshop, the first activitie will be going out to collect plants, prepare the wool and dyeing process. For this activitie you will have an assistan who will guide you through the process of dyeing and weaving.

Materials

We will provide you all the materials required this traditional textiles workshop and everything you produce can be taken home with a certificate issued by our workshop and signed by artisan teachers recognized by UNESCO.

The dyeing activitie will be donde until lunch time. Lunch will be in a family style sharing with the artisans in the workshop.

After lunct, it will be a full adventure afternoon of great concentration and perseverance in learning to master the threads to go forming different motifs in our textile piece, your personal assistant will be with you during this process.

Once we finish the experience you will be able to take home the wool you dyed, the loom you weaved. We will drive you back to your hotel.

NOTE: This work shop is done at QAYTU SCHOOL WORKSHOP and we are the only privilleged that works with them.

WHAT OUR TRADITIONAL TEXTILES WORKSHOP INCLUDES

  • Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the workshop.– We pick up from all the hotels in Cusco and Sacred Valley in a private vehicle.
  • Reception.– Upon your arrival at our workshop we will receive you with a warm welcome and reception ceremony.
  • Materials for the development of the workshop.
  • Family Style Lunch.– We include a family lunch that we will share among all those present in the workshop, the food is homemade style.
  • Personal Instructor.– You will be assigned a personal artisan instructor who will teach you during the whole process of the workshop. The artisans are masters with recognized national and international trajectory.
  • Local guide.– One of the members of the workshop will provide you with all the theoretical information about the whole process of the workshop, likewise this person will accompany you throughout the day or duration of the workshop.
  • Transfer of the workshop to your hotel.– At the end of the workshop we will transfer you back to your hotel in the Sacred Valley or Cusco.
  • Souveniers.– At the end of the workshop you can take the loom where you learned as well as the wool that you dyed yourself with the plant.

WORKSHOP DURATION & SCHEDULE

Our Traditional Textiles Workshop is a full-day experience designed to immerse you completely in the ancestral art of Peruvian textiles. The workshop typically runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing ample time for each stage of the textile creation process.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

No prior experience in weaving or dyeing is necessary! Our workshop is designed for complete beginners as well as experienced textile enthusiasts. Our master artisans will adapt the instruction to your skill level, ensuring a rewarding experience for everyone.

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

This workshop represents more than just learning a craft – it’s an immersion into centuries-old Andean traditions. Each pattern, color, and technique carries deep cultural meaning that has been passed down through generations of indigenous communities.

CERTIFICATION & RECOGNITION

Upon completion of the workshop, you will receive a certificate signed by our UNESCO-recognized master artisans. This certificate acknowledges your participation in preserving and learning these important cultural traditions.

GROUP SIZE & PERSONAL ATTENTION

To ensure quality instruction and personal attention, we maintain small group sizes with a maximum of 8 participants per session. Each participant receives individual guidance from our master artisans throughout the entire process.

ACCESSIBILITY

Our workshop is accessible to most participants. However, please note that some activities involve standing for periods and fine motor skills. If you have specific mobility concerns, please contact us in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.

WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS

The workshop takes place in covered areas, so it operates rain or shine. The natural dyeing process can be particularly fascinating as the colors may react differently depending on atmospheric conditions.
